Preparation

Prepare the Salmon Burgers

  • Finely chop the salmon and red onion, add to a large mixing bow, and combine with the panko breadcrumbs, egg, honey, BBQ sauce, Dijon mustard, minced garlic, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.
  • Divide the mixture into 4-5 equal portions and shape them into patties using your hands or a burger press. Place the patties on a plate and refrigerate for at least 15-20 minutes to firm up.

Make the BBQ Aioli Sauce

  • In a small bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, BBQ sauce, Dijon mustard, salt, and pepper until smooth. Adjust seasoning to taste. Set aside.

Cook the Salmon Burgers

  • Heat the avocado oil in a large cast iron grill pan (preferred) over medium heat. Add the salmon patties to the skillet. Cook for about 4-5 minutes per side, or until the patties are golden brown and cooked through. Be gentle when flipping the patties to avoid breaking them.
  • Mix 1 tbsp of honey and BBQ to baste the patties, once flipped.

Assemble the Burgers

  • Spread a generous amount of BBQ aioli sauce on the bottom half of each bun. Place a salmon patty on top of the sauce. Top with a generous amount of coleslaw, and/or preferred toppings.
  • Add the top half of the bun to complete the burger. Serve the Honey BBQ salmon burgers immediately with extra BBQ aioli sauce on the side.
